Snowsports Success at Mt Buller
28 August 2019
A team of 24 Genazzano girls competed at the 2019 Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships at Mt Buller between Monday 19 and Sunday 25 August 2019. In a week that transitioned from blizzard type whiteout days to perfect bluebird conditions, our girls should be exceptionally proud of their incredible team and individual efforts.
Led by passionate and enthusiastic Snowsports Captains Claudia Sayers and Hannah Abrahams, our senior team placed seventh in the overall School’s Championships, whilst our Grange Hill team placed a most impressive eighth in the overall Junior School trophy.
Our individual highlights started with our youngest competitors; the Division 6 combination of Willow Crewes and Gabriella Ansell (both Year 2) placed seventh (of 35 teams) in Ski Cross and both girls qualified for the Australian Championships to be run in a fortnight. Also joining these two at Nationals is Elisa Grollo (Year 9) who placed in the top 15 in Division 2 Alpine Grand Slalom and also made the finals of Ski Cross.
Without doubt the greatest moment of the week however came on Saturday afternoon in Division 1 Ski Cross. After qualifying for Nationals in the Grand Slalom event in the morning, Social Justice Prefect and Year 12 Boarder Bridget Henry opened her Ski Cross competition with a solid run that placed her 12th overall, but it was the finals run where Bridget produced her best ever performance in her last ever Victorian Interschools race. With a near perfect display, Bridget topped the rankings and then nervously had to wait as eleven higher ranked skiers tried to eclipse her time. To her own surprise and the jubilation of the excited Genazzano supporters, Bridget remained the fastest finisher and won gold as the Division 1 Ski Cross Champion of Victoria. Congratulations Bridget!
