Melbourne’s new Junior Lord Mayor

Congratulations to Chloe Amalfi, Year 6, who was announced as Melbourne’s new Junior Lord Mayor on Monday 20 August. Chloe was one of the seven finalists in the competition and was sworn in following the judging ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall.

During her interview with 3AW, Chloe explained her main focus is on the homeless crisis in Melbourne. She would like to work closely with Melbourne City Council and charities to address this, with her suggestion to utilise empty buildings as temporary shelters winning the judges over.

Chloe will spend the next 12 months attending various events with Lord Mayor Sally Capp, her first being Melbourne Day on Thursday 30 August.

The Junior Lord Mayor competition requires participants to answer a set of questions, and if selected as a finalist, participate in face to face interviews with a panel of judges.

The panel of judges for 2018 were: Channel Nine newsreader Peter Hitchener; Lord Mayor Sally Capp; Dr Jo Clyne from History Teachers’ Association of Victoria; Simon Purssey from 13cabs; MelbDay chair and judging MC Campbell Walker; and 3AW radio presenter Denis Walter.
