Genazzano receives two 2020 ‘Excellence’ Australian Education Awards

Genazzano FCJ College has received two Excellence Awards for School Principal of the Year – Non-government and Best Professional Learning Program in 2020.

These awards demonstrate the College’s commitment to educating young women and providing an environment that leverages their strengths, talents and potential.

The Australian Education Awards bring together hundreds of education leaders, recognising star performers in the K-12 sector. Across 25 categories, the Awards recognise schools, principals, department heads and teachers for their achievements.

Genazzano was a finalist in four categories, so to be recognised with two Excellence Awards is an exciting achievement shares Principal, Ms Karen Jebb.

“We are overjoyed to have won these prestigious awards”, she said.

“Being recognised in these two areas is a real highlight, especially following the extraordinary year we have had”.

“Congratulations to all the teachers and support staff at Genazzano who have contributed to our success and ongoing delivery of world class programs.

A Genazzano education is a wonderful gift and it’s a true team effort to make sure the academic and wellbeing needs of our students are met”.

Students at Genazzano enjoy the benefits of a holistic education, with over 130 co-curricular activities on offer, in addition to academic pursuits. These activities including music, arts, sport, debating, language immersion, social justice and more, help students develop important life skills such as teamwork, creativity, innovation and leadership.

There is also a strong focus on integrating technology into the school curriculum. The College starts teaching STEM skills and understandings from Prep and even exposes students to technology in its early learning centre. Students are introduced to programming and coding from Year 7 and have the opportunity to embrace technology through the creation of apps, games and virtual reality excursions.

In 2020, Genazzano has received an Excellence Award for School Principal of the Year – Non-government, which acknowledges the extraordinary leadership and achievements of Ms Karen Jebb, Genazzano FCJ College Principal. Ms Jebb has shown exemplary commitment to the pastoral care of all Genazzano’s students and has succeeded in improving educational outcomes and the financial position of the College during her tenure.

Together with educators, students and their parents, Ms Jebb has created a thriving learning culture that nurtures students to achieve their best. This is demonstrated by the outstanding VCE results in 2019, with 7% of students in the top 1% of the state and 50% of students receiving an ATAR of 90 or above.

The College has also been recognised for its Professional Learning Program, Science of Learning: Improving Educational Outcomes, which is designed and delivered by internationally renowned neuroscientist, teacher and author, Dr Jared Cooney Horvath.

Now in its third year, the program is an initiative of the Institute of Learning & Brain Sciences, led by Director, Catherine Brandon.

“Our unique professional learning program focuses on student improvement and supporting teachers to build individual and collective expertise through projects and research from the fields of neuroscience, education and psychology”, shared Ms Brandon.

“Having this program recognised formally by an Excellence Award is testament to the great results being achieved throughout our College”.

Congratulations to everyone in the Genazzano community – these are your awards, so share them proudly.
