Genazzano Educator, Bianca Farley recognised as ‘Rising Star’

Miss Bianca Farley, Educator at Genazzano FCJ College and Year 8 Team Leader, has been recognised for her outstanding leadership and commitment to promoting and supporting mental health and student wellbeing.

Released today, The Educator’s Rising Stars list recognises professionals, aged 35 or under and working in the K-12 education space, who are able to demonstrate effective leadership, innovation and achievement in their career to date.

Bianca was nominated for her contribution to innovation and engagement across the College. During the past two years, in and out of lockdown and learning at a distance, Bianca has implemented a number of initiatives focused on developing student voice and the promotion of agency and resilience.

She met regularly with students and advocated on their behalf for planned breaks, free time and minimising homework, to help them cope with the additional screen time and reduced social interactions of learning at home. She organised and facilitated focus groups across Genazzano and other schools about respectful relationships and equality; and organised a Brain Dance neuroscience challenge in collaboration with the College Psychologist, where students learnt about brain health, having fun and how to stay engaged in their learning.

Bianca is an educator who seeks every opportunity to empower her students, as demonstrated by the discussions she arranged with Inspiring Girls Australia to promote careers, pathways and opportunities for women. She even nominated one of her students, who was selected as a global ambassador for a charity about empowering young girls.

A true role model, to both staff and students alike, Bianca extended her engagement as a leader in multiple school musical productions, as Producer for the Years 7 & 8 staging of Hairspray Jr and as Director and Choreographer for the Junior School production. She has implemented a range of activities to promote fitness, health and fun; and has engaged with staff wellbeing initiatives to boost teacher morale.

Genazzano FCJ College Principal, Mrs Loretta Wholley congratulated Bianca on her Rising Star Award.

“We are so proud of the work you are leading Bianca”.

“You are an outstanding role model for our students at Gen, both in the Junior and Senior School. Thank you for your ongoing contribution to our community”, she said.

Humbled by her nomination, Bianca thanked her mentors at Genazzano FCJ College.

“A heartfelt thank you, I am inspired by each of you every day and appreciate the time taken to compose this nomination”.

“I am thrilled to be promoting our College and exposing the collaborative efforts involved in establishing the BE Program and other initiatives”, she said.

Bianca aims to continue to develop her skills and expertise as a teacher. One of her latest projects is the BE Program – a new initiative to provide Year 8 students with a vehicle for active exploration of their personal and social capabilities, where they can establish connections to the wider community, build awareness of the world around them and prepare themselves for the future as confident and capable learners and human beings.

Each term takes on a theme and focus area. Term One began with the individual student and what it means to ‘Be You’. Students delved into their character strengths and deciphered what makes them unique. This progresses into a unit that develops a shared language and understanding of the concepts and behaviours that underpin respectful relationships.
