Genazzano celebrates completion of the Visual Arts Refurbishment

Genazzano FCJ College recently celebrated the completion of stage one of its Visual Arts refurbishment at a small gathering with VCE Creative Arts students.

The six month development has transformed part of the old building into a modern work of art, boasting open plan areas that support our teaching pedagogy and encourage cross curricular in the Arts.

The integrated design adjoining the different rooms allows students to use a variety of studios to create their work and caters for a comprehensive Arts program that exposes students to different subjects including Studio Arts, Art, Visual Communication Design, 3D Printing, Ceramics and Art Production.

With interactive screens and ergonomic furniture, the space is available from Year 5 up and includes four new arts rooms—a Ceramic room, Studio Arts room, Senior Art room and Junior Art room, in addition to staff offices and a dedicated VCE art workspace, available during their study periods.

A light, bright and welcoming space, the new area is also more conducive to collaboration and communication between teachers and students, with a larger space for moderating folios or conferencing and benches for easy interaction.

Creative Arts Curriculum Leader, Joanne Saville was delighted when she first saw the new area.

“I had an emotional response to the space when I saw it – it was exactly what I envisaged and it has now come to fruition. I can already see our girls flourishing in the space,” she said.

Similarly, it was hard to hide the excitement of Principal, Ms Karen Jebb, when she officially shared the new space with the 2020 VCE students.

“We are so pleased to be able to share these new facilities with you, particularly in your final year when you’re refining your creative talents,” she said.

“Having a space which caters for our students as they progress from the junior school into the senior school is really important to us.

“Our girls can now experience the type of activities they’ll discover later in their learning journey and be inspired by the works of older students along the way.”

Our Years 5 and Year 6 girls have specialist Arts classes each week and our Year 7 and 8 girls study Art for a full semester. This provides students with an opportunity to learn many different practices including textiles, ceramics, painting, 2D and 3D printing and drawing.

Special thanks to the Creative Arts and Maintenance teams for their support during the project. We’ve ended up with a wonderful space to support our students learning and creativity.
