Genazzano – an Innovative Schools Award winner again in 2020
11 November 2020
Genazzano FCJ College has been recognised again for its innovative learning programs as part of The Educator’s Innovative Schools list for 2020.
The annual Innovative Schools list recognises schools at the cutting edge of change and innovation in Australia and provides an opportunity to showcase the inspirational initiatives being implemented to deliver quality teaching and learning experiences.
In 2019, Genazzano FCJ College was recognised as an innovative school for the work of the Genazzano Institute of Learning & Brain Sciences; a unique and progressive innovation to promote an understanding of brain function and health for improved learning and living.
Since then the Institute has gone from strength to strength, continuing to support students with different programs and clubs; the Science of Learning program for educators; and events, news and forums to support the broader community to better understand the brain and embrace topics like neurodiversity.
In 2020, the Institute has been recognised for its iLEARN Profiler and Emergence Program.
The Profiler is a strength based tool which invites a student view of strengths, challenges, classroom experience, mindset, approach to learning, metacognition, motivation and more. The tool was developed and piloted by this year and received positive feedback from both staff and students.
“I think the survey is useful. I was able to stop and think about how I learn and what I’m good at”, shared a Genazzano student.
The Emergence Program combines exceptional learning opportunities with a new microcredentials platform and a dynamic digital ePortfolio. Students build rich compendiums of skills mastery, knowledge and experience throughout their learning journeys and the portable database allows them to showcase their accomplishments beyond the school.
Principal, Ms Karen Jebb, was delighted the College has been recognised again this year.
“I am thrilled that Genazzano has been recognised as an innovative school again in 2020”, she said.
“Our Genazzano Institute of Learning & Brain Sciences has continued to deliver new programs focused on improving students’ learning and it is great to see these acknowledged externally”.
“Being a leader in learning and innovation to improve student learning outcomes is a key part of the College’s Strategic Plan; and these sorts of programs are evidence we are delivering what we promise”.
Genazzano’s innovative learning community allows students to grow academically and personally by offering transformational learning experiences that focus on soft skill acquisition not just content.
This holistic approach enables students to develop into resilient, adaptable and agile thinkers, who have a global mindset and caring, inquiry based approach to learning that contributes to society.
The Genazzano Institute of Learning & Brain Sciences has established a position at the forefront of utilising neuroscientific research in school education to improve learning and teaching. The aim is to provide exceptional student and staff learning experiences by working with key partners to leverage advancements in the fields of neuroscience, education, psychology, environmental design, health and information technology.
Genazzano FCJ College is a Catholic Day and Boarding School in Kew offering a co-educational Early Learning Centre and all-girls environment from Prep to Year 12. It offers students a rounded education that prepares them to become resilient, adaptable and confident women.
