Alumna Juliette Salom’s film to feature in VCE Season of Excellence 2018 Top Screen
9 February 2018
Recent Genazzano alumna, Juliette Salom (2017), has been announced as one of 18 outstanding VCE students from the class of 2017 across the state whose film will be shown at the VCE Season of Excellence 2018. Juliette’s chosen film, which she created as part of her 2017 VCE Media Studies, will appear as part of the Season of Excellence’s Top Screen film festival at ACMI (the Australian Centre for the Moving Image), Federation Square.
Juliette’s film is titled, ‘Yo Pass the Aux Cord’ and draws inspiration from Australian comedies that focus on a simple yet very funny idea, no matter how banal it may seem, and heightens it to an over-dramatised point, pushing this one comedic concept to the extreme.
Juliette has starred in many TV ads and short films, most recently acting in an independent film that was released last December called, ‘The Comet Kids’. It was these opportunities to act across film and television on many different sets that brought about her love for film and opened her eyes to the magic of making her own films.
Juliette believes that examining films in VCE Media Studies allowed her to delve deeper into the process of all the entities that contribute to bringing a film together.
Now studying a Bachelor of Film & Television at Swinburne University, Juliette will continue acting but her focus will shift to more behind-the-camera work. “Through studying this degree at Swinburne, I hope to achieve more knowledge of the film industry, gain experience and learn about each role required in a production. Ideally, the end goal is to work as a director, but any job within the film industry would be a dream”, states Juliette.
We congratulate Juliette on this momentous achievement and look forward to seeing more of her talents on the big screen in years to come.
The Season of Excellence 2018 Top Screen will screen at ACMI from March 8 – May 9, 2018.
