Introducing the College Council

Genazzano FCJ College is incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, and is governed by the College Council. The Members and Directors of the company, are appointed by the Province Leader of the FCJ Sisters Asia-Australia, and are responsible for the policy direction, property and financial management of the College. The Chair of Council and the Principal are ex-officio members of all Committees.

The Principal is the Chief Executive Officer of the Council and is responsible for the selection of staff and for the development of educational policy for the Council's approval. The Principal is also responsible for the implementation of policies and decisions of Council and for all activities associated with the internal management of the College.

Mr Kevin Frawley

Kevin is a practising lawyer and a senior partner of Arnold Bloch Leibler, in the Property and Development and Litigation groups. Kevin’s practice focuses primarily upon advising private clients undertaking major property development projects, including for a number of secondary and tertiary education institutions. Kevin has been a member of Council since 2009, and has served on the Finance Committee, the Infrastructure and Sustainability Committee, and the Governance and Risk Committee. Kevin has been appointed Chair of Council from 2016. Kevin has had and continues to have daughters enrolled at Genazzano FCJ College.

Mrs Cynthia Dowell

Cynthia Dowell is currently the Deputy Chair of College Council and is the Group Director Nursing at St. John of God Healthcare. She has more than 20 years’ experience in the healthcare industry including in executive leadership roles.

Her eldest daughter completed Year 12 at Genazzano in 2014 and her youngest daughter is currently enrolled in Year 12 (2016).

James Barber

Mr James Barber - B.SocSci; B.A (Hons, 1st Class); PhD (experimental psychology); D.Univ (honoris causa)
Director since 2016; 

Jim recently retired as Vice-Chancellor of the University of New England to become a founding partner of Kranium Network, providing education and research services to universities and government, and an online tutoring network for undergraduate students in science and maths. Prof Barber is a former winner of Flinders University’s Award for Teaching Excellence, and North America’s highest award for research in child welfare, the Pro Humanitate Medal. Prior to the University of New England, he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at RMIT (2007-2010), Dean at the University of Toronto (2003-2006), and Head of the School of Social Administration at Flinders University (1993-2003). Prior to embarking on an academic career, Jim Barber trained as a Jesuit seminarian from 1972-1980.

Kathy Bowlen

Kathy is a media and communications professional with responsibility for reputation management, media, social media, publicity events, publications and internal communications at St Vincent’s Hospital. Kathy is a Director of Media-Savvy, an executive media training company. Kathy was a senior member of Victorian ABC TV news and current affairs, anchoring national breakfast news, current affairs programs Stateline and Asia Focus, and weekend news. Kathy chairs a scholarship fund at Swinburne University and has board experience with Swinburne University, Next Wave Festival and Australian Sustainable Industry Research Council. Kathy is an alumnus of Leadership Victoria.

Janine Enright

Janine Enright is an experienced educator who, for many years, held teaching and leadership positions in Victorian Catholic secondary schools. She has worked at the tertiary level in pre-service teacher education at the University of Melbourne, Australian Catholic University and Victoria University. Janine currently consults to schools in a variety of areas including curriculum development, teaching and learning, and leadership development. Janine is a member of the CEM Catholic School Reviewers Team.

Sr Frances Kennedy fcJ

Frances is a member of the FCJ Sisters (Faithful Companions of Jesus). Prior to returning to Australia in 2014, Frances spent ten years based in England as an assistant to the FCJ General Superior, advising and collaborating in leadership decisions and liaising with Sisters in the international FCJ group. Six months in the Philippines preceded that assignment, before which Frances was Provincial Leader of the Australian FCJ Province. For most of her adult life, Frances has been engaged in education at primary, secondary and tertiary level, in both teaching and leadership roles.

Eric Passaris

Eric is a partner at Grant Thornton with 25 years in the accounting profession, specialising in audit and assurance services and forensic accounting and litigation support. His clients include public listed companies, private owner-operated businesses and not-for-profit organisations spanning manufacturing, technology & media, insurance, retail, education and service industries. He leads Grant Thornton’s NFP industry group in Melbourne and has significant experience in the Independent and Catholic schools sector where he has been audit engagement partner for over 50 schools. His Board positions include Director and Audit Committee member of the Catholic Development Fund.

Rose Marie Prosser

Rose Marie is a sessional lecturer in Practical Theology at YTU - a college of the University of Divinity and involved in the provision of Professional Development for teachers in primary and secondary Catholic schools across Victoria. She is a Trustee of Kildare Ministries which overseas nine secondary schools and two ministries of the Brigidine sisters in Australia and the Presentation Sisters in Victoria. She is a member of the Catholic Religious Victoria Governance Network and has been part of the Presentation Sisters Governance Education Council for 10 years. She was Director of Faith and Mission at Genazzano from 2001 to 2003.

Luke Sayers

Luke is Chief Executive Officer of PwC Australia and Vice Chairman for PwC Asia Pacific. He leads a team of more than 500 partners and over 6,500 staff focused on helping Australian businesses solve their biggest problems and realise their potential in an ever changing world. PwC Australia is focused on addressing important national issues such as tax reform, Australia’s engagement with Asia and how we can continue to innovate and thrive as a nation. Luke has long term commitments to community organisations and external Boards. He is a member of Monash University's Industry Council of Advisors and leads the Victorian Branch of the Male Champions of Change.
